COMMECT was represented at the 31st IEEE ICE/ITMC Conference in Valencia, Spain, by Per Jonny Nesse (Telenor Research & NTNU), who presented the paper “Digital innovations for rural industry create socio-economic and environmental impacts,” co-authored with Gabriel Linton and Anne Jørgensen Nordli.

The study reports field trials of two co-created 5G/IoT solutions in the Norwegian forestry Living Lab. Operators estimated that the remote-supervision platform would deliver an average 64 % reduction in operational time and 53 % cost savings 118_FINAL. The AI-driven fire-detection and health-monitoring network achieved a 60 % reduction in response time, 48 % cost savings and a 56 % improvement in operator safety.

These impacts were enabled by stakeholder engagement at every stage—forest operators, equipment providers and telecom partners shaped each feature—and a Qualitative Comparative Analysis identified two distinct impact pathways: one anchored in strong innovation experience, and another driven by high organisational agility and digital competence.
